Baking Soda

Baking soda can cause hair damage and skin irritation.
.
The average scalp has a pH level of 5.5, and the hair shaft has a pH level of 3.67. Maintaining this balance helps with hair health, but baking soda has a pH level of 9.
Products with a high pH level can increase:
-cuticle damage
-hair breakage
-frizz
-irritation
Ingredients with a high pH are effective at removing buildup and drying out the scalp, but long-term use can also strip your hair of its natural oils and irritate the scalp.

Avoid using baking soda for your DIY hair product projects,if
-your hair dry or brittle
-your hair chemically treated or coloured
-you use hot tools to style your hair
-you have sensitive skin
.
What to use instead?
- If you want to remove product buildup and oil, use clarifying shampoo. These shampoos contain surfactants such as sodium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate to remove product buildup.
-For pre-shampoo treatment use coconut oil . It can penetrate the hair shaft and prevent hair breakage.
-Invest in a good conditioner. It seals the cuticle ,create softer hair and restores pH balance in your hair.

Product Build Up

Some of the hair products like gels, mousses, hairsprays, shampoos and conditioners contain chemicals that don’t dissolve in water.  They leave tiny residue every time you use them.
.
What causes product build up?
-Not shampooing enough(or using only sulphate-free shampoo)
-Over using products
-Not rinsing thoroughly
-Using products containing silicons(that are not water soluble)and petroleum oils
-Co-washing
.
How to get rid of product build up?
1. Identify the products that cause build and through it away!
2. Use a clarifying shampoo.
3. Use a clarifying treatment.

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo doesn’t clean your hair.Dry shampoo absorbs excess sebum from your roots, freshens up the rest of your hair and leaves it smelling fresher.
.
It’s a powder or fast-drying spray that provides a water-free option for cleansing your hair .You can choose some different shades of dry shampoo so it will match your hair color..
.
If your dry shampoo leaves residue, you feel stickiness after using it,unpleasant scent,or you feel it’s too heavy for your hair type, then try different brand of dry shampoo.
.
* Shake it.
* Don’t spray too close to your head.
* Less is more. Too much dry shampoo can make your hair look dull.
* Dry shampoo should only be applied to dry hair.
* Don’t rub it in immediately after spraying it on give it a few minutes to absorb the oil at your scalp.
* Brush out excess of dry shampoo from your hair.
* Don’t overuse it.You still need your regular shampoo.

Purple Shampoo

Purple shampoo is a toning shampoo that uses the colour purple to directly brighten up the yellows and neutralizes warm tones in blonde/light hair by depositing cool, violet pigment.
.
If you know your hair has high porosity, or have tried purple shampoo in the past only to have it stain your hair purple, then try diluting your purple shampoo with water(personally I prefer this method)or a regular shampoo.
.
It’s the best way to keep your blonde hair bright in between your salon visits.
.
Always rinse with plenty of water and follow with a moisture conditioner, which could be purple too.

Hairspray (plus test)

Pump and aerosol hairsprays
Many people still believe that aerosol hairspray destroy ozone and are more damaging to the environment than pump hairspray. But aerosol hairsprays no longer use CFCs and have the same VOC limits as pump hairspray.
There is a real concern about breathing in any hairspray. You should be cautious and minimize your exposure when using any hairspray. For example you can wear a face mask 😷. Make sure you use water-soluble hairspray.
.
You can test the solubility of your favorite hairspray very easily.
Spray any clean, dry, glass surface with hairspray. Wait at least 24 hours and try to remove it from the glass. If the hairspray can’t be easily removed with warm, soapy water there is a danger it will build up in your lungs.

Silk Pillowcases

Sleeping on silk pillowcases will help keep that bed head under control.
.

The natural properties of silk, including its smooth surface, can help reduce friction on your hair which often causes damage, like spilt ends.
.

They don't suck out all of the natural moisture that your hair has and preven static from building up in your hair.

Hair Loss(4 vitamins and minerals)

Vitamins and minerals, such as Biotin (Vitamin B7), Selenium , Vitamin A and Zinc can cause hair loss when consumed in excess.
.

If you are regularly taking more vitamins and minerals than your daily allowance, they can all lead to hair loss by triggering a condition called Telogen Effluvium.
.

Recommended Dietary Allowance:
✅Biotin (Vitamin B7) – 35 mcg .
✅Selenium – 55 mcg .
✅Vitamin A – 700 mcg (2,300 IU) for women .
✅Zinc – 8 mcg

.

-Pyrithione zinc (gentle enough to use every day, even for coloured hair)
-Ketoconazole -Selenium sulfide (can change your hair color, especially if you have blonde or grey hair)

Leave-in Conditioners

Leave-in conditioners can be in liquid sprays, lotions, and creams.
-For thick, coarse or curly hair use a creamy leave-in conditioner.
-For fine hair use a lotion or spray leave-in.
Leave-in conditioners can be protein based, moisturize based or balanced depending on the ingredients it contains.
-When your hair feels too soft or weak you should use a protein leave in conditioner for strength. Also, use it after highlights and bleach.
-When your hair feels rough or dry use a moisturizing conditioner. Also use it during the winter season, when your heater is on, but don’t forget to use a humidifier as well.
Almost all professional leave-in conditioners have pH between 4.5 and 5.5

pH of the hair

pH(potential hydrogen)
The pH scale is used from 0(acidic) to7(neutral) to14(alkaline).
Virgin Hair pH=3.67
Scalp pH=5.5
Water pH=7.0
Skin pH=5.5
Pediatric shampoos “no-tear” pH=7.0

Alkaline pH (any product applied on hair that has pH higher than 3.67) may increase the negative electrical charge of the hair fiber surface and increase friction between the fibers. This may lead to cuticle damage and fiber breakage. It is a reality and not a myth that lower pH of shampoos may cause less frizzing for generating less negative static electricity on the fiber surface.
This is one of the reasons why we use conditioners.  Conditioners have positively charged polymers (cations) that will quench those negative charges.  They deposit on the hair and at the same time they provide lubrication to the fibers among other things
After using a shampoo of pH higher than 5.5, conditioner of low-pH should be applied so that besides lubricating, the electrostatic forces can be neutralized, the frizz effect eliminated and cuticle scales may be sealed.

About Clarifying Shampoo

Clarifying shampoo- aka purifying, detox and deep-cleansing shampoo.
Even your standard shampoo and conditioner can build up their own residue over time.
If you use styling products, dry shampoo, or spend time in chlorinated pools, then use clarifying shampoo once per two weeks. If you have dry coloured hair, limit it to once a month, since clarifying formulas can strip the colour.
Without a doubt, use it before you are going to the hair salon to colour your hair.

Definition of Balayage

Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint and also called as freehand painting technique.

It allows for a natural-looking effect, with subtle, less noticeable regrowth lines than with regular foil highlights. Balayage is applied on the surface and not saturated through the section until the very tips. It grows out beautifully and more naturally so you don’t get an obvious regrowth line and can wear it for longer between appointments. It’s low maintenance, more natural, and is a modern technique that’s much more flattering. Healthy hair is attractive hair and that’ll never go out of fashion. Balayage gives a gorgeous healthy finish that looks nature-enhanced, glossy and expensive. It can be natural or strong, whatever you want, it’s all about the application technique.

Trim Your Hair on a Regular Bassis

What I see vs What you see😉
  • Remember the horizontal line gives the impression of thick healthy hair 💕
  • And ripped split ends will give the illusion of limp hair(even if you have thick hair)😤
  • Don't forget to trim your hair on a regular basis 😉

Questionable Hairstyles at Golden Globes 2017

And if you think that Sarah Jessica Parker paid tribute to Carrie Fisher, then read this article at people.com “I didn’t mean for that, perhaps it was in my subconscious,” Parker told NBC’s Natalie Morales. “There’s actually a photograph of my mother wearing her hair like this.”
I love braids, but it's a little too much!I'd prefer some hairpieces around her face and neck.

I spy with my little eye, BOBBY PINS!
You shouldn't see any bobby pins !!!

Beads?
Good idea for little girls and DIY projects, but not for the red carpet.

Even if she plays Jackie, this hairstyle not for her!
Old fashion hairstyle can make you look like an alien!

Let me know what do you think about it in the comments below 😉
